Oregon State Fair – Volcanoes Baseball Cake

August 27, 2010

Well, I was fortunate enough to win first prize for my cake at the Oregon State Fair. I decided to make a Volcanoes baseball cake because we love baseball. The cake was a four tier dummy cake with a covered cakeboard. The glove on top was a 7 inch dummy that I carved into a glove shape. (the ball was a dummy too) Then came an 8 in, 10 in and 12 in. tiers with a baseball field for a base. Everything was made of gumpaste and fondant and the writing was done with royal icing.

We go to Volcanoes games all the time and I just wanted to put some of the things on the cake that mean something to my family. This cake only took about 24 hours total and it was so fun to make. The little baseball player on the cake is supposed to be my husband…but he’s not that chunky! Enjoy!
