2011 Celebration of Cakes at San Tan Village – “The Ants Go Marching…”Cake and “Adopt a Dog”

June 23, 2011

These are my two entries in the “2011 Celebration of Cakes” cake competition at San Tan Village in Gilbert, Arizona. The Arizona Cake and Sugar Arts Association and Caketini have put together a wonderful cake competition that includes demonstrations, create a cupcake for kids, live cake challenge and wonderful cakes from all over the state of Arizona. This is a great event for the family because you can see  great cakes, big and small, while you shop at San Tan Village!! The event starts Friday, June 24 and runs through Sunday, June 26. Hope you can make it and keep a look out for these guys below….

“The Ants Go Marching…” Picnic Cake

This is “The Ants Go Marching…”  cake that I entered in the novelty category. It’s basically picnic theme with ants carrying all the food away to the ant hill. Everything is made of fondant and royal icing. The bottom tier is a checkered table cloth, the middle tier is a cut watermelon cake and on top of that is an oval picnic basket cake with food coming out of it. And I topped it all off with a watermelon slice and a grape. The other picnic food is all hand sculpted and covered in  fondant.

All of the ants are made of black fondant and the legs are made of black royal icing  piped strings.
