Welcome Home Cake For My Brother!! – Surfing Beach Theme Cake

June 4, 2012

My little brother and my sister-in-law just returned home from a nine month vacation to Central America. They spent half the time in Costa Rica and then bought a 1990 Ford Sunbird RV for the drive home, up the Pacific Coast. They traveled over 5,000 miles in their RV, aka “Big Brown.” They both learned to surf, use a machete and speak Spanish. They traveled with their large but loving dogs, Anakin and Shelby. They have so many great stories about their travels and the people that have touched their lives. We are so blessed to have them home safe!

We had a party for them on June 2nd and I decided to make them a special cake. The cake was beach theme with sand, shells, surf boards and the focal point, the RV. The cake was a 9 inch vanilla round, filled with vanilla pudding and strawberries, and iced in vanilla buttercream.

The sand was made from crushed graham crackers and granulated sugar.

Anakin and Shelby were riding the waves on their fondant surf boards!

Pictured below are the cake decor drying for at least 4 days. The large red surf board was a little bent because I moved it before it was totally dry.
